In 1941 Bernard moved with his family to Sebastopol, California where he worked continuously until his death in 1985.   The Holocaust had a deep effect on Bernard Zakheim.  He lost over 300 members of his family including his mother.

 

Much of his works after the late 1940's was concerned with the Holocaust and the fight against Fascism.
